Let's pretend for a moment that it is possible to cut someone's heart out and squeeze all of the raw emotion out of it like someone squeezes an orange or lemon to get out all the juice. That is what Daniel Woodrell does in this collection of short stories but not only does he squeeze the emotions out of his heart but somehow he reaches through the pages and squeezes the reader's heart as well. I don't really know what I was expecting when I won this book as a firstreads on goodreads. I am not sure why I even signed up for it other than I liked the title and picture on the cover. I do know that once I started reading it I was on an emotional roller-coaster from beginning to end. Yes, there were some stories that I liked better than others but even those that were not my favorite tended to pull me into them. I really liked this book and suggest you read it.
