There were just enough good aspects to this book to keep me going to the end, but I have to confess I had my doubts. The part that was "just enough" was finding out why the Venice Opera House burned down in 1996 and what happened at the end. The problem is that there are way too many bird walks from that story into various encounters the author has that seem to lead nowhere. The idea may be to give a feeling for Venice, but most of the book is disjointed.

If you've been there, maybe this is for you.
