** spoiler alert ** I loved every second of this book. I found it gripping. The mystery of it drew me in. Had I not read the last chapter I would have given the whole thing 5 stars. The roller coaster of Lena, her uncle, her family and everything else going on in that town was very compelling and juicy.

The minute Jeffery Tolliver died, I hated the whole book. I'm sure the author had her reasons but to me it felt like something done on almost on a whim and done in an author sort of "they're-my-characters-I-can-do-what-I-want-with-them" kind way. In fact, I have stopped reading Slaughter's novels at this point. The same way Sara couldn't fathom a world without Jeffery in it, I cannot fathom the Grant County novels without him. After I get over the initial annoyance, I may return to them. I desperately want there to be a purpose to Jeffery's demise.
