This book isn’t so much a story as it is a guide to punting/rowing/towing down the River Thames. There were some pretty funny parts – insulting steam barges in favor of little boats until one is being pulled by a steam barge and then insulting little boats who get in the way of steam barges. The tales of Montmorency, who I didn’t know was a dog until the second chapter, after which I felt very foolish. I didn’t care for any of the main characters a great deal; the narrator struck me as rather an idiot, the other two were lazy, and the only one who kept my interest was Montmorency the terrier.
