 rating: 4 of 5 stars i just finished reading jay anson's classic, haunting nonfiction account of one family's terrifying 28 days in a "demonically possessed" household. i'm talking, of course, of the amityville horror.
 
 the story goes that 23-year-old ronald defeo, jr. executed all six members of his family in this ocean avenue home, in long island, ny, in 1974, because crazy devil voices told him to.
 
 hennnyyywayyy...
 
 one year later, the lutz family moves in with their three kids and dog, harry. [just curious, who the fuck names their dog, harry!? that's a man's name. who gives a dog a man's name? that's just crazy. you don't give a dog a man's name. i mean, would you name a man spot or fluffy? well of course not! that's just absurd! moving along then.]
 
 so that's: dad, george, mom, kathy, two sons chris and i-forget-the-other-kid, daughter, missy and dog, harry.
 
 story then goes something like this over the next 28 days: cold spots, fly infestation, scared priest, scared dog, foul odors, slime oozing from the walls, levitating kathy, ghostly marching band through living room, pig demon named jodie, cold spots, hidden red room found in basement, satanic red pig eyes staring through second story window, old-hag kathy, slamming doors, cloven hoof prints outside in the snow, ghost of a dead boy, squealing devil pig, van won't start, windows won't stay closed, the whole family get skeered, crying, screaming, cold spots, big demon thing in white points at dad, family flees home with no pants on. 
 
 ok, i just added that last part. i suppose they probably had pants on because it was in the dead of winter and more than likely freezing outside. i just like saying "pants". pants.
 
 there, now you don't have to read the book. it's really not that good anyway. you're welcome.

Hahaha! I want to read it just to watch Harry the dog run outside with no pants on.
