Written in a similar fashion to Bonhoeffer (Metaxas) and Team of Rivals (Goodwin), this book follows the lives of Livingstone and Stanley and their contemporaries. It explores the political and cultural arena of the time as well. So much more than the context of "Dr. Livingstone, I presume," this book taught me much about African exploration of the 1800s. While I know Christian groups have shunned this book due to it's inclusion of Livingstone's failures as well as his missionary experience, it's a reminder that we are all human; no one belongs on a pedastal.
