Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing (Fudge, #1)
by Judy Blume
I remember my year 5 teacher reading this to us and absolutely loving it - the story of little Fudge and his innocence slash mischevious ways, all told from the viewpoint of is older brother, Peter. This is a brilliant story that children can relate to - particularly the way Fudge is always asking questions, the things he does that keep him amused and the way that no matter how much Peter gets annoyed with his little brother, he still loves him deep down and wants to look after him.
Brilliant for year 4 or 5 groups, to keep them entertained - the stories remain current to this day.
These are a series of books I read many times over because I loved them so much - I've even dipped into it as an adult because the storylines are so intriguing and timeless, telling the storylines from a really accurate, and amusing, older brother's point of view.
The best thing about this story is that it inspired me to go on to create my own story featuring the female equivalent of Fudge - and named her Caramel! I would love to use this story as a motivator for children to either create their own stories or characters.
