Fantastic. Serge Mouret's journey as a priest through his "transgression" was difficult to put down. Zola's description of a paradise in nature and one man's descent into religious passion and religious doubt were mesmerizing. It also introduced one of my new most reviled literary villains, Brother Archangias - and a favorite hero, Jeanbernat.
