I would have liked this book a lot better had the ending not been so contrived. It really felt like Davis just couldn't think of a way to end it. Really, there's not much of a plot in this book. It's religious but not preachy. It's one of those books that centers around a small town and you are let into the lives of many different people who eventually all come together in one way or another. The most interesting story in the book is about Mees, a little girl who discovers she has the ability to bring recently deceased people back to life. There's also a scene in which you're in the heads of a group of dogs, hearing their thoughts. It's a nice book of magical realism but I don't think Davis took advantage of everything she set up. Worth a read but not really life shattering.
