God, No!: Signs You May Already Be an Atheist and Other Magical Tales
by Penn Jillette
by Penn Jillette
I'm not a fan of people who get overly preachy about their beliefs and harp on others who don't think the same way, but Penn Jillette presents his arguments in a very fair, funny and non-judgmental way. His case for a lot of things - primarily why he's an atheist - boils down to "I don't know." He blasts religion, homophobia, conservatives, liberals, the war on drugs, everything, and fully admits he's a boisterous asshole, but I never felt like he was looking down on anyone for thinking differently.
Atheism does come up a lot, but about 75 percent of the book is made up of really funny and enjoyable stories about his past, his family, his work with Teller, and a variety of other topics. He's a great, funny and surprisingly emotional writer, and that made this book a great read.

Penn did a terrific essay a few years back for NPR's "This I Believe," about why he is an atheist and why his beliefs have helped him be a better person. Here it is: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/st...
