really liked it
Read from August 01 to 07, 2011

I loved The Sparrow so much that I probably would have read a telephone book set in the same universe as a sequel. Children of God is a lot better than a telephone book but even further away from being as good as The Sparrow. So much about the first book is a series of terrible revelations that end with the exhaustion of full disclosure and that's what passes for redemption and you're not gonna get any more than that, the end. Children of God is very "More hard times! Second verse same as the first!" but attempts to cobble together an ending that justifies everything that's happened for the last two books and that ending just ... didn't resonate with me. I don't think I was given the proper tools to be invested the end revelation, both emotionally as a reader and intellectually as someone who hasn't studied music. But I still give this book four stars, because it exists and is something other than a phone book.
