This is the story of a blind man and his dog. The main story is during his time getting out of the World Trade Center. The other main theme is the story of blind people in general. Getting out of the tower was traumatic for everyone. The fact that the dog was so well trained and that neither dog nor master were panicked, was amazing. Having read other stories about people getting out, this was no different. Everyone was calm. Everyone helped each other. Amazing stories.
I appreciated the information at the end of the book about blind people. Why am I not surprised that there is such discrimination against blind people. My cousin and a friend are both blind for the same reasons that the author is blind. Same age. Same issues. My cousin is bitter. My friend is not. It made me smile that the author has been able to drive. Billy has always said that if there was a braille steering wheel, he'd be driving.
Years ago, I worked for a company that made keyboards for Kurzweil. It was interesting to learn more about the company.
