The first in the Harry Bosch series. I liked it. It's written back in 1992 (having to run to a pay phone or the precinct house to use a computer seem quaint now). Harry doesn't seem dated at all. He's a fallen from grace LA homocide detective who was demoted to the Hollywood Division but still works his detective magic. A murder he's called to investigate that ties to Harry's service in Vietnam starts the story. He has to work against Internal Affair trolls, the FBI and his own Superiors in Hollywood. Lots of evil characters, some get what's coming to them, others don't (so far) but it has a great story, it's fast paced and definitely a great beginning story for Bosch's character. I look forward to the book in the series that explains Bosch's famous "Dollmaker" case better.
