I like Stuart Woods for a dependable, well plotted story. The Stone Barrington novels have a few consistent activities: Stone goes shopping and buys Sea Island Cotton shirts, he eats at Elaines, women like to have sex with him and he'll cook them a steak, and his friend Dino swears a lot.
I knew there was a problem when I saw the book was much thinner than his past books. The margins: huge. To add insult to injury, each chapter has a picture of a man in a hat. No, it wasn't like Harry Potter, it was the same picture each chapter.
He also recyles some story ideas from past books: the whole body/ head revenge theme was in Dead Eyes. Dead Eyes was very good.
Fresh Disasters could probably be switched out with any James Patterson book, as long as the shopping and sex were changed to banging out tunes with kids at Momma's piano. Or Sweet Valley High: I'm sure the osso bucco at Elaines could switch to the fried clams at the beach.
If he's using a ghost writer, I think I ...more
