really liked it
Read from September 04 to 07, 2011

This is definitely a cozy, quiet mystery that doesn't have any major twists or give the reader a chance to do some mental lifting with regard to plot; that said, I really liked it (thank you goodreads for your starring system). Ivy Malone is a great heroine, and an interesting portrait of a woman of a certain age in the modern era. Instead of being saccharine or overly sentimental, the piece does a nice job of making her genuinely likeable and easing some of the innate pity readers might feel for characters in her situation (widowed, lost best friend, elderly).

There is a lot of casual conversation regarding Christianity and our position in the world as people; this could be a serious detriment to the enjoyment of some readers. I found it true to the character and I enjoy philosophical detours in writing, so it was fine by me.
