Excellent book! McCourt captures Irish life during and after the Great Depression. I very much enjoyed his specific and particulate use of detail to realistically capture the poverty and abuse of his childhood life. I have tried to accomplish this same specificity in my current novel The Brothers Keepers my link text, which I feel is an American, fictional complement to McCourt's non-fiction work.
