it was amazing

I have yet to read another war novel that portrays the psychology of a soldier coping with the horrors of war as well as this one. It occurred to me that faint but similar psychological shadows are cast by a medical education on a physician -- and ultimately separates those who have had that experience from those who have not.

Bruce I agree, Scott. I also wonder if that is not true about any number of experiences and even professions. Each is certainly unique and, for better or worse, bonds together those who have experienced it, whether we like it or not.
