Originally posted on Night Owl Reviews. The tale of the meeting between a tortured vampire named Ivy Tamwood and her unwanted and unrequested new partner, witch Rachel Morgan. The two women could not be more different and they strike sparks off of each other as they try to comply with all of the demands upon their new partnership within the framework of I.S. (Inderland Security). A murder of a were implicates vampires but Rachel is unwilling to be restricted to her bland runner duties and starts working on the homicide investigation despite Ivy’s opposition. Ivy struggles against her personal demons including the unhealthy relationship she has with the evil and manipulative Piscary and the attraction that Rachel’s blood and body has for her.

A bit disconcerting to see a graphic representation of all of the familiar characters whenever a printed work is transformed into a visual version but the artists have done an excellent job at conveying the story. A little difficult to distinguish between the appearance of Ivy & Rachel’s ghoulish boss Denon and the vampire Piscary, Rachel possesses a few more capabilities than expected (jumps off of the bridge and lands in water without a problem?) and somehow I expected a troll to be much larger than depicted. A surprisingly erotic depiction of the story and one wonders if Ivy murdered the nightclub flirt but overall an intriguing introduction to the Hollows world of vampires, weres, witches and other paranormal creatures.
