Very well told story - I enjoyed the point of view of Lucia. I would recommend this book to anyone - I have know for ages about people taking boats to Florida from Cuba, I actually knew a girl (ages ago) who had done this herself. But I didn't know anything about this operation to send children to America ahead of their parents. What a difficult decision to make - there were several spots in the book that caused me to tear up just thinking of how difficult it was for the mother to send her two precious children out into the unknown. I think the author put a great voice to this time in history, I was very glad to learn and feel more about what so many Cubans have experienced (and still experience) under the direction of Castro. How grateful I am that so many have found refuge here, or in Spain (where I met the girl who had escaped by boat). Very good read, I think I will pass it on to my daughter in another year or two.
