Leaving Microsoft tells the story of John Wood's disilluionment with corporate life and the creation of Room to Read- an international charity which builds schools and libraries and endows girl's scholarships in Napal, Vietnam, Cambodia, Sri Lanka and other third world countries. Mr. Wood narrates the story from his first creative spark to the arrival of the 1 millionth donated book. Most of the narrative is inspiring and interesting, but 2/3 of the way through I was getting tired of the same format: disaster, need, search for money, too much travel, intrepid volunteers save the day, on to the next place. But the book does grip you for the first 19 or 20 chapters--and what an effort! the goal of schools and access to books for global literacy. You can find out more through
