I liked this book quite a bit when we read it as a class in 5th grade. The beginning seemed a bit boring too me, but then it really took off. For the rest of my life, I've never been able to see the inner part of a stick without wondering if it would taste like chewing gum. It also openned my eyes to the abstraction that reading truly is. There's one quote in the book, something like... "Why does the white man right 'arm arm arm' all over page?". It's always stuck with me!
