The Night Eternal (The Strain Trilogy, #3)
by Guillermo del Toro, Chuck Hogan, Daniel Oreskes

A bit spoilerish but not too dangerous...
Disappointing end. Not just the ending of the trilogy but the whole book. It tasted so different if compared with the predecessors. I don't even know where to start pointing out the things I dislike from this book. The archangels and Sodom & Gomora & Old Testament tales are so ridiculous I spent much time frowning and shaking my head. Too much deus ex machina here and there. Why can't the authors make an original tale of the vampire creation? And the romance between Ef, Nora, Vet...booooringgggg. And Ef's inner battles? His diary entries are ok, sometimes it's way too melodramatic and repetitive. The big ending? Yawn.
It felt like ages, reading this book. It lost the arresting quality the first book has. The scariest part is not about the vampires but when Zack killed a snow leopard *sigh. Scary level down to almost zero.
I am sure there will be a movie on this but not sure whether I want to watch it or not. Hell, maybe if it's only based on the first book.
PS: Mr. Quinland is Blade, right? right?

What do you think about Cobra? Better than The Afghan?
where did you get The Strain #3? Last week I went to Periplus PS and Aksara PP and I didn't see this. I thought #2 is the newest in this series.

listening to The Strain (#1), always lost focus in second chapter where the grounded plane at the runway where all the lights were gone and the ground crew coming to check. didn't get past that section... LOL. just have to wait to finish the 1st before going to book 2 or even book 3.amyway, i got other books, physical books, that i can read so the audio book just have to wait.
btw, i like Ron Perlman's voicing(/reading?) the 1st book.

Yes, Ron Perlman is a very suitable reader with his raspy voice. That's why I only want to have the audiobook version. Couldn't find it until now :(

I can see how this book differed from the two previous, namely the flash backs and the more biblical vein, but I found it good. I think as a whole the series added new dimensions to the apocalyptic, vampire genre.

I sort of expected a new twist in the history of the vampires. But I didn't get what I want.
The ending when (view spoiler)
Oh and the romance was way too much. I couldn't care less about the love triangle and couldn't understand why the authors decided to wrote so many pages about those three.
I expect more gore, action, badass vampires...even Mr. Blade, er I mean Quinland seemed a bit wasted.
And what happened to archipelago countries? Did they all get away? They only mentioned about UK who managed to get away from the plague cause they blew up the tunnel. I did not get much info about the rest of the world.
And what's with the still active internet connection? I want to know more about the daily life. The blood farm was scary but I personally think having sudden attack is more frightening then having drained using tubes.
Then again, to each his own :)
