I know I really liked this one when I read it as a young teenager. At the time it seemed like Honor did a lot of kicking ass and taking names. In retrospect ... it's a little hard to believe Honor was an ugly duckling for almost 50 years. Also, the ship's databanks don't have access even to information about how to apply makeup? Not as far-fetched as it sounds. Not only would it take up minimal space (physically and in terms of bytes), but for a while I had a roommate who was in the Marine ROTC. She told me that the service's view was that while you were a Marine, you were also a lady, and there were standards to uphold, which included wearing a discreet and tasteful amount of cosmetics.
