The City of Dreaming Books (Zamonia, #4)

I was 50 pages into this book before I realized the protagonist was a dinosaur. Whether that says more about me or the author's writing style, I don't really know. I do know that I was 100 pages in before I liked the book, but after that I had a hard time putting it down. It's a book about books, for people who like books, full of made up books. Oh, and puns - lots and lots of puns. As odd as it was, it was totally worth it in the end.
The plot is roughly thus: our dinosaur protagonist sets off to discover the author of a mysterious manuscript, the most amazing things he's ever read. In the process of doing so, he falls into intrigue and becomes trapped in the massive Book Maze below the city, a labyrinth where ancient booksellers stored their wares, now populated by book pirates, Fearsome Booklings, and a slew of other monsters.
This is apparently part of a series, but the book itself is a stand-alone and can be enjoyed on those grounds.
