bookshelves: crowley
Read from August 31, 2011 to April 16, 2012

I'm putting this in the "read" file and cheating about it as I have not finished it...still at whatever mark I was back when. I go back to it, I'll have to start at page one, my guess...for whatever reason I simply laid this one aside and have not returned....

this looks to be a good story......"that was the feeling. it was as though she stirred him with cornstarch. he had begun to thicken."

yes. thicken. crowley's voice...or, the voice of the distant narrator, is unique. although too i am reminded of others...padgett. he has a twangy way of saying things. still early, but looks to be a good read.

update: christmas day...evening, dark here, 535 pm 2011....and i'm back with this one.

...there are some interesting things happening, other than the wedding....

which seems to be cause to look at things through the eyes of other(s) including a large trout who dreams convoluted troubling dreams.

i'd put this down and walked away cause well it is...after the initial burst...a bit hard to follow...or, want to follow. not a lot of what i call move em or lose em action jackson...sure, some action, walking about...in a kind of dream-like state...like the trout there, treading water eyes open.

....but someone, i forget who, has cards to watch the newlyweds...

....and a man, a brother in the family, has been trying to recapture a little of those...glory days...or something...he has two photo albums, one, in which faces are present....the girls took those shots...he, is incapable...lacks the single eyebrow---all very scientific, most holy darwin, his attempts to discover why and wherefore...seeing or not seeing, like w/the cards...his photos, only some...have faces present..."there it is"

and...anyway, figured to see if i could get through this one...see if the little people make a showing, or not....see what gives.

okay..yeah, so like another update here christmas evening.

i'll say now this story has six parts to it... or books.
book one is edgewood.
two is brother north wind's secret (where i'm at now)
3 is old law farm
4 the wild wood
5 the art of memory
6 the fairies' parliament.

my edition also has that stuff at the back like they do these days, an interview w/crowley looking cleaned up and bearded, nice clean white shirt, outdoor setting...more from some big brain person, a take on the story and what it means.

i'm about ready to give up on this one again...for a time or maybe permanent who knows.

it's...interesting and all...but i feel like why can't they just come out and get it on? you know?

like these fairies that are and are not there. sure...this guy walks the road to edgewood, smokry barnable, gets married...married just past the 50-page count there...and...

well, not a helluva lot happens.

there are some nice quotes and such:this country seemed full of people furious to grow up this from violent, the matriarch of the family and boy howdy, hey?

you bet...they are furious to grow up. highlight that.

so...i'm off for a bit to read something else.
