Oh, it was a while ago when I read this book. I'm talking years ago, but I do remember what happened and why I didn't like it as much as MJ's other books. I'm pretty sure that it's because it lacked the overall MJ-ness of it all. That special spark that's in all of her books, and I think it was missing because it's written in first-person. I mean, I loved her story in Let It Snow, but I just didn't like this narration that well. Jane is a likable character (all of them are actually), but when it came right down to it, I didn't laugh out loud like MJ's other books. I think that her new book Name of the Star is written in first-person as well, but I'm pretty sure that it won't lack the spark that this book was missing. As with all of her books, romance more often than not happens towards the end of the book, which is fine. I like to see that, but in this case I didn't. I knew that Jane was trying to save her friend, but I wanted to see something more happen with her and Owen besides that one kiss at the end. The whole build-up didn't feel like it would really lead anywhere, so the kiss was weird. Either get them together early on or don't do it at all.
