An exceedingly bizarre book, but I still found it incredibly entertaining. It uses TV logic, rather than a reflection of real life, to tell a highly melodramatic story of love and redemption set in a completely oversimplified community in Appalachia. Everyone in the book felt like an actor playing a role rather than an actual person. Dialog flowed, but it didn't feel natural. Complex problems were resolved a little too neatly.

Taken as it is, though, it's a perfectly entertaining book. I read through it in one sitting and was never bored. For three hours I was perfectly content to sit and read. Once I reached the end, however, I completely forgot all about the characters and the story.
