I enjoyed the different style of writing and the concepts explored here. I'm always a bit of sucker for a British voice and colloquialisms in writing and I felt it lent a fun voice to the novel. The book actually got me to thinking about how often in life we think "oh if I'd only done that differently...everything might have changed for the better" but maybe this thought process isn't very productive. Maybe then we would have just had a different set of problems, or things could have still gone the wrong way, just a DIFFERENT wrong way. Who knows. But it was thought provoking. I'd probably give it 3 1/2 stars if that were possible on the goodreads system. He lost some points with me for taking some long asides at times which were not always germaine to a pretty involved plot line and story that needed attending to as it way. I'm normally fine with diversions, so I didn't mind it too much, but the plot had so much going on anyway that I felt a little tighter editing might have been called for in spots. I also wish the whole first chapter could have been re-written. It almost felt like we could have started at Chapter 2 and been better off.
