A memoir told from the perspective of the author as a young boy living in Ireland after WWII with his German mother and Irish father. At times this perspective is trying because the story is stripped down to such simplicity, but it also allows for an interesting revelation of difficult details. The pain of his parents' lives sneaks up on you, as related through a child. Thus, I found myself truly startled by some accounts.
