This is the first James Patterson book I'd ever picked up, and my first thought was how insubstantial it was. It was almost like reading air. I had over 300 pages left in the book when I picked it up last night -- and three hours later I was done with it. That's over 100 pages an hour, and I wasn't speed reading. It breezed by so quickly that I missed the big plot twist in the story, which left me annoyed with myself for not seeing it coming.

Other than that, it was a good -- albeit quick -- read. The 100 bite-sized chapters read like a pseudo-Bourne script. The story was so neatly tied up at the end that it was beyond implausible, but then again, the main character was a 30-year-old Marine war hero turned art student, so plausibility really wasn't the selling point at any juncture of this story (view spoiler)[Another plausibility flag was the Russian syndicate boss that was banging his daughter. (hide spoiler)].

Since Patterson had a co-author, I can't really infer anything about how much I like his writing (or the co-author's, who I've also never read), but I would definitely read another book by Patterson if the synopsis sounded like something that would interest me.
