Guterson is a fantastic writer. He is simultaneously elegant and lyrical and yet suspenseful. He keeps you guessing, gets you angry, overwhelms you, and engrosses you and he does it all with consistently beautiful imagery. This is one of the best books I've ever read.

Catherine StClair Okay, I'm totally stealing this from you the next time I'm in DC (i.e. this Saturday). Maybe we should go read in the Bishop's Garden! I can recreate your idyllic experience there when I start this book....
