Tim Riley has read absolutely everything that there is to read about John Lennon – and talked to as many sources as he could – and has done so very thoughtfully. The result is a very balanced biography that manages to be fair to all the players involved – John himself, Paul McCartney, Yoko Ono, Cynthia Lennon, etc. The book is long and thorough so it's not for those looking for a quick hit. But if you'd like a realistic, balanced account of the life of a superstar who is some ways will always remain an enigma, this is about as close as you will get.
