** spoiler alert ** My head is pounding from crying. The last 50 pages were nonstop, and I'm seriously stunned with how everything ended.

I must start by saying that I absolutely despise Scarlet O'Hara. I think she's a terrible person, a terrible mother, and besides the fact that she did help save Tara at one point, she has not shown me one bit of decency. I feel like everything she did was so futile. Scarlet pining over Ashley Wilkes for so many years and for what? Then finally, after the only friend Scarlet ever had is dying--Melly--then she decides that she never really loved Ashley after all. It's exasperating. And Rhett--how could she have been so "smart" and not seen that Rhett was the perfect person for her and she had him and couldn't even make that work?

Okay, so I think I just needed to fume here for a moment, and now I'll say that any book that gets me as emotionally involved as I was with this one is a great book. I was completely enamored by the story and it was fast-paced and interesting and, frankly, brilliant. There's so much to say that I don't even know where to begin.

I think part of the reason that I'm so fruastrated with Scarlett was that I invested A LOT into her--over 1000 pages and hours and hours of my time. I want more from her. I want her to realize her stupidity before it's too late. I want a better ending.

Rachel Well done my friend. Truly a classic, huh? I can't wait to have a book group discussion on this book. The characters are so rich and multifaceted against the backdrop of a horrible time in history. I'm going to reread it as a 'mom' this time, but I have to say the book has already left an indelible impression on me.

Amber So, you probably understand why people have tried to write sequels to this book. I've read both Scarlet and Rhett Butlers People and have got to say that although I enjoyed both of those books, neither of them truly captured Scarlet as she is in GWTW.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, this is one of my ALL TIME FAVORITES.

Sue Jeana,
You know that I read this book in high school and I will never forget it either. It is a book that gets you totally involved with the characters. I loved it too!\Mom

Annalisa I swear I commented and voted on your review when you posted it. Weird. Anyway, you want so much for Scarlett even though you despise her don't you? Mitchell is excellent and tugging on your emotions. Besides, if she knew she had Rhett, she would have just held it over his head instead of reciprocated.
