Read from October 15 to 18, 2011

Based on the advice of a friend, I skipped the second book and started with the third. I was a little lost at points, but not enough to really take me out of the story. The writing and characterization has improved vastly from the first book. Dresden felt a lot more like I'd expected him to be based on the tv show, and was (almost) never pompous, condescending, or sexist. His dialog and relationships with people seem much more natural and believable. The book held together pretty well until the end, at which point my suspension of disbelief got a little taxed. But I did actually enjoy this book, enough to consider continuing the series.
