The Oriental Wife is a story focusing on the lives of several Jewish refugees that come to America from Germany before the height of World War II. The story follows them through several decades. I really enjoyed this one from the beginning but about halfway through I felt completely lost. The story clearly falls apart as the main characters get older. Tragedy does not strike just Louisa and Rolf, it tears apart the story as well. I felt that Louisa ceased to be her own character, I kept wanting to hear more from her side of the story. The character of Emma seems to come out of nowhere and I felt there was too much jumping ahead to that part. By the end I was wondering what the story was supposed to be about anyway. Disappointing after the way this one started.
