It's easy to see why this book became a cult classic. It's campy, unexpected, and strange. Also hysterically funny in parts. The humor feels a little dated somehow, in the same way old Monty Python movies do. I don't know whether it's me (I'm not a kid anymore) or the tenor of the times.

Anyway, HGTG is a sci-fi humor classic, quirky, short, and enjoyable. It makes some brilliant character sketches--probably the book's greatest strength. Because of the book's status in SF pop culture history, probably a must-read.
