I love this book for its coming of age story on the eve of the Revolutionary War. Daily life, and the frustrations of being young and dealing with a world growing larger by the day is predominant in this book.
A light thread of romance does appear, which really keeps me coming back. Time Enough for Drums is one of my old favorites. Every summer, it never fails, I'll find myself on the couch re-reading it.
If you are looking for a read like Meg Cabot, you will not find it with Ann Rinaldi. Her books have a more serious tone, and less snark.
