Beware: This is an extremely long book. Reading this book will be taxing and will require a significant amount of stamina. Perhaps it is my penchant for brevity that made this especially difficult for me. There is a 3-hour speech within this book and every word is included within the text.

That being said the content of the book is excellent. Ayn Rand presents compelling arguments for capitalism and argues that a society based only upon social need will inherently fail. It was insightful to read this book and compare the characters and moral values within it to the news regarding the Occupy Wall Street Movement. A society based on need and not on personal responsibility and self-interest cannot work.

Although the reader can pretty accurately guess where the plot is headed, the specific methods by which the characters have made their decisions and implemented their values is engaging and thought provoking.
