I found my enjoyment of this book fluctuated; some parts were highly interesting and others more mundane, though that probably means there is something for everyone and there was certainly some interesting information contained within its pages, conveyed in a fun way too.

I understand that the black and white presentation is probably intentionality chosen to keep with the geeky manual style, but readers shouldn't expect any mouth-watering pictures to inspire them to put down the book and get on and cook.

My only concern is that people could become too wrapped up in the 'perfection' side of things and forget to actually just relax, have a good experience producing their dishes and appreciate the food for simply being tasty without overly analysing it. In other words: don't make the kitchen so hot you want to get out!
