Mosley is a very good writer and I enjoyed the story, it was a mystery which I typically like. The thing is, it took place in the late 60's ealy 70's and is told by a black man... so there are a lot of statements and remarks that were used in the writing (which were very true of the time) but made it hard for me to read because they are offensive and very racial. It was also a very eye opening read in that it made me think about reading (as a consumer) from the black perspective. Most books are written about white people and being white I never thought about how difficult it could be for a black reader to identify with the characters, specfically physical descriptions in which none of the characters ever look like them. I know that can be taken badly but I mean it in a good way.
