I like the concept of shapeshifter but I must admit that most of their stories let me down on account of the “mating” thing (with wondrous exceptions). This story was slightly different, and better in the sense that the mating does not imply instant “love” in the sense of trustiness, companionship, friendship and so on. This book has also a slightly different plot (shapeshifters are demons, but one family tries to change the evil pact). But the female main character was… neither shy nor outspoken or extrovert, neither fearless nor valiant, neither warm nor frosty…. Nothing is really special about her, she has no flaw that makes her likable, approachable. What is more, I couldn’t understand her, most of her fears made nosense to me... And if you can not empathize with the main characters, really what do you care? I could not really enjoy it.
