Award-winning children's author/illustrator Anita Lobel pens this childhood memoir of her life during the Holocaust in Nazi occupied Poland.

Granted what happened to her and her family was horrible, something I will never begin to understand. However, Lobels' personal anti-Semitic attitude towards herself throughout the book was disturbing. I fully expected her to explain that she understands as an adult that being Jewish was not a bad thing now, but during the Holocaust it was not easy being a Jew. She did not explain this at all. I worry that children will read this and wonder whether being a Jew is a good or bad thing.
