Westerns aren't usually my thing but I did end up enjoying this quite a bit. It tells the story of two hired assassins in 1850's Gold Rush California. Although it's dark, it somehow has a great amount of humor weaved in, and was fun to read despite the dark subject. I was fascinated by the writing, because it was definitely a western, but sort of a modern take on it. And with some supernatural/magical elements thrown in for good measure. Hard to describe but I'm intrigued by this author and I was happy to see this book made the cut on the shortlist for the Booker prize.
