This is a quality third instalment in Nancy Holzner's series. The first book (Deadtown) set up the paranormal enclave and its politics. The second (Hellforged) introduced more of the mythology surrounding Vicky's family heritage and the demon world she can cross into. Bloodstone brings those two elements together.

This book delves deeper than the other two in both areas: we get more information on how the zombie plague came to be, learn more about Vicky's immediate family, and know more about the myths and legends tied to Vicky and her Aunt Mab. Politics also play a strong role, with Boston's relationship with Deadtown starting to veer towards more a more militant style separation.

I liked that this story was based almost entirely in Deadtown (and Boston in general) and that we got to learn more about the paranormals who inhabit it.

There's also more of Kane, more vampires and a lot more tension than previous books, with all of Vicky's allies weakened and threatened, pretty much at the same time.

If you enjoyed the first two books, you'll definitely enjoy this one.
