Mark Leonard A beautifully written book that centers around the short life of a charismatic young poet that seduces everyone with whom he comes into contact. His death in WWI turns him into a figure of great curiosity for nearly one hundred years. The revelation of his secrets and those in his orbit parallel the rise and growth of gay identity at that same time.

While the ending is a bit of a headscratcher, the rest of the book is tenderly written, allowing us to see each character as flawed individuals, yet giving us license to care about them in spite of, or even because of, those failings.
