Sometimes there's a comfort in seeing familiar tropes done well, which is how I feel about this series.

Nothing groundbreaking here: evil wizards, impetuous apprentices in magic, brave princesses, telepathic bonds with dragons.

However, all the characters are well-realized in a way that takes them beyond their types and makes them feel real.

I _hate_ the new covers though--this one isn't so bad, but the new cover of Dragons of Trelian, where Meg is partially hiding behind Calen and peeking out from behind his shoulder--SO MUCH UGH NO. Meg would never do that!
