I loved Bel Canto; I liked State of Wonder. State of Wonder kept me going back for more but always with the nagging question: would such a smart, sophisticated scientist really do these things? Would she let her guard down to the point of being so foolish as to toss out her meds and discard her Sat-phone? Patchett held my interest but stretched the limits of what was believable. Would a pharmaceutical company continue to invest in a project with no status checks. Would they not question or limit funding to a rogue scientist. And what of the actual discoveries? I will continue to ponder the not so subtle metaphors interwoven into State of Wonder.
