Read from August 20 to 22, 2011

A recent collection of essays, slighter and not as cohesive as his The Art of the Novel (I still need to read Testaments Betrayed), but still a refreshing, enlightening read. Kundera still has a great gift for concise, penetrating statements (even if important nuances sometimes get sacrificed for the sake of elegant brevity), as he mostly ranges over roads taken and not taken with the form of the novel, as well as some detours into 20th-century classical music and painting, and, of course, the legacy of his homeland Czechoslovakia.

Thanks to it I also have a new raft of additions to make to my Goodreads to-read list...
