** spoiler alert ** Augusten Burroughs memoir "Running With Scissors" is a riveting read just because one does not know what will befall him next...his mother is severely mentally ill and his father is detached. Augusten is a bystander in his own life and when he is 12 or so is abandoned to his mother's psychiatrist to raise. The home they live in is digustingly dirty and the family has also taken in a pedophile. It is a very wonderful memoir because Mr Burroughs does not take the "oh poor me" attitude but rather shows the humorous side at the extremely odd circumstances of his young life.
