Fair Game by Patricia Briggs

There are 988 reviews of this book currently on GoodReads already. There is nothing I have to say - good or bad - that hasn't been said several times over and much better than I can say it too.

I have had Fair Game since release day, but procrastinated in part because it was gonna be awhile before the next Patty Briggs book, and in part because River Marked, the last Patty Briggs book I read (set in this world) annoyed me.

Well, now, I read it.

I can't fault Ms. Brigg's writing. Her storytelling works for me. The simplicity with which she writes lends a stark beauty to her tale and engages me fully in her prose.

And it is no secret that I love the Cornick men. So definitely I very much enjoyed the story. However, I am not feeling as euphoric as I usually do when I have just finished a Patty Brigg's story; that's because the excellence of the story notwithstanding, I have noticed that certain critiques of the series and the world Ms. Briggs have created are starting to resound with me, hence my mixed feelings about the book.

(Nevertheless, I think Charles and Anna are more able to carry a story by themselves than Mercy and Adam.)

Plus, I miss Sam terribly.

Lisa Kay Can't wait for this book. And it comes out in hardcover!

Lulu Lady Jaye, I'll be really interested in what you think. I've waited to read it since it's likely that the next Alpha/Omega book won't be out for a year or longer.

Lady Jaye Aw, Lulu, that makes me sad, as I enjoy this series more than The Mercy Thompson stories :(

Lulu That's what a lot of people say. I tried starting the Mercy series a long while ago but got distracted and put it down and never picked it back up. It's still on the TBR pile.

I appreciate that Briggs takes her time with her work. It makes the end product so much better. But, yes, I heard that she's got another Mercy book, Frost Burned, coming out in Spring 2013 so another Alpha & Omega book likely wouldn't come out for at least another year, maybe longer.

Lady Jaye She might write a book about Sam after Frost Burned. I'm excited for that. He's my favorite!

Lulu Based on your review, I think I'm going to wait to read this, at least until there is some word when the next Alpha/Omega book is out. I would also love a book about Samuel. I think he finally found his mate (over in the Mercy series).

Maria Schneider I loved the book! Can't wait for the next one.

Lady Jaye Lulu, I think it will be better to wait too, considering that we won't get to see Charles and Anna until very late next year, at the earliest. But it also felt so good to see them again, so you might also want to reconsider that, haha.

Maria, I enjoyed It very much too. I am very interested to see what they will be up to next!

As you know I am not normally a fan of UF but have read the previous 2 so will keep going, but never liked her Mercedes series!

I do like the alpha and omega series better than the Mercedes series, I admit. But I do like them both. Have you tried Briggs' When Demons Walk? It's a WONDERFUL book. It's one of her older ones; a fantasy. I highly recommend it!!!

Lady Jaye Dee - it took 2 books for me to enjoy the Mercy Thompson series and now I am getting disillusioned with it :(

Maria - I haven't read Whe Demons Walk yet, but I plan on revisiting and finally finishing the Hob's Bargain.

You know if you don't enjoy the books all that much...there's other stuff out there you might like! The Mercy Thompson books can be on the dark side and there was one book in there that bugged me because it suffered from the "everyone loves Mercy" syndrome.

If you like UF in general, I bet we can rec some others!

P.S. Hob's bargain was just okay. Not her greatest. Decent read, but.
